I've had several maintenance and resident service needs recently; all have been fulfilled very promptly, completely, and professionally.

Although I have lived at Meadowood for 7 years, it feels like I moved in yesterday--time speeds by when you are having fun! When anyone asks what we like most about Meadowood, the first answer from most residents is "the people." Interesting, friendly and adventurous describes our residents. One of our most recent "adventures"--free--was a visit to the Indiana University Library to see an unusual collection of three-dimensional artists' books. 15 of us went on the Meadowood bus, the same bus that takes those more athletically inclined to events on the IU campus.

On April 29, Meadowood Retirement Community had a concert for residents called Meadowood Follies.  This was evening entertainment put on by residents who sang and danced and told funny stories and jokes.  One person read a poem. The Meadowood Follies was planned and organized by Mary Boutain, the Independent Living Activities Coordinator at Meadowood.  She encouraged residents to participate, and she facilitated by getting music for all vocalists and getting needed props.  This included securing black lights and white hats for the dancers. Mary made sure each musical participant was rehearsing with the accompanist.  She scheduled dress rehearsal times, so each participant could learn how to use the mike and when they would enter the stage.  At all times, she maintained a positive attitude, inspiring performers to feel more confident. The order of the printed program was very good – musical presentations were alternated with joke-telling and times of audience singing.  The presentations were fun-filled or inspiring.  I believe the audience thoroughly enjoyed the show. My role in the Follies was accompanist for the vocalists and dancers.  This gave me a view of the planning and practicing, and Mary Boutain's role in the production.  It was great fun to take part in it, and I think other participants enjoyed taking part too. Many thanks to Mary Boutain, as well as other staff at Meadowood who supported her in this production.

The hospitality director Mark is wonderful. I think he is extraordinary. He is very special for the Meadowood community. He has thrown tailgate parties before games. He is very generous with his time and he is very attuned to our needs.

I wanted to express a message of appreciation for Toni and Leslie. They were very helpful to me when my wife passed away. They also checked on me when I was personally in the hospital. They were very kind and I appreciated their help.

I take this opportunity to say that in my opinion Meadowood is the perfect place to live one's later years. I've enjoyed it tremendously and learned a lot about successfully living in community. The staff is wonderful at providing an interesting, respectful, and cheerful place to call home -- and where there is help for this aging process that we all are facing. Thank you so much.

Are you a resident of Meadowood or a family member of one? We'd love to hear your thoughts about the community!
