As we recover from the recent hurricane, I must comment on the exceptional care given to Horizon residents during this storm. The staff remaining on property for the entirety of the storm assured the safety and comfort of everyone. The maintenance staff, nurse, food and beverage staff and management team were evident during a trying time. Even during the actual storm, we received door to door checks asking if we needed anything. Delivering hot meals (delicious) as well as beautifully packed sandwiches, cereals, orange juice, bottled water, bananas and everything needed. This door to door delivery was much appreciated. Again, thank you for taking care of the residents with a detailed plan that was comprehensive and affective. SO appreciated!

For Hurricane Irma, The Horizon Club management, staff, servers, maintenance crew and cleaning staff worked together like a fine Army in their care for all residents of the Horizon Club. Added to the hurricane is the renovation going on in the dining area which necessitated a change in dining facilities, food preparation and storage and location of activities rooms. But addressing their service during the hurricane: FOOD. maintained at proper temperatures for safety consumption, and as the hurricane progressed we were served breakfast either in 'kits' containing cereal, milk, a bun, individual containers of juice, yogurt or, if safe, served in the temporary dining area. For the dinners we were given choices and once made, packages were delivered to our doors between 11 and 1, if it was safe for the staff to venture out, which it was in between gusts. Again, the next morning staff came around with breakfast kits and later on with water, and again between 12 and 1 dinners were served. The Club has generators which serviced the Kitchen so that the food was preserved and served hot. STAFF. the staff was absolutely wonderful during this hurricane. Many stayed here to assist and the attitude was one of what can we do to help, friendly, smiling, eager to please which combined with older people already upset and sometimes confused, was a real positive attribute in these circumstances. The nurse remained on duty the entire time checking in on every resident who might have needed her aid. Our Director was here full time during the hurricane, as were several of the sales staff and servers. FACILITY. The maintenance staff went through every patio and placed inside all outdoor tables, chairs, etc. for safety during the storm. Loose branches and all outdoor common furniture was removed and stored Response was terrific if a resident needed special attention or a hand to hold. And after the hurricane blew through, the staff removed debris and garbage and checked on each resident that remained here during the storm to be sure we were OK. They also replaced the patio furniture once it was safe to do so. The generators worked for kitchen but also for a common area which had small mini-generators which one could plug in a cell phone and a large screen TV. This area had cool air and chairs so the residents could relax. The main building lobby had large fans to help the situation. The individual units did not have power until Wednesday at about 9:30 AM. I am sure the power issue will be addressed to the Broward County Commissioners. GENERAL. there was such a display of teamwork among the different levels of personnel: management and staff, professional and worker bees. They were all in it together. Outstanding care and attention to detail on all levels and tremendous organization, like an Army. Glad I was here at Horizon Club for this hurricane!

I can't say everything I would need to say in this review space. But what I WILL say is this: I do educational presentations at many (over 40) senior communities in the South Florida region, alone. I have been immersed in the different cultures and communities for many years now. When -- as a family, including my mom! -- we thought it would be best for my mom to move into a senior living community, there was no doubt about the best location for her. And we looked at more than a few. I knew, in my heart, that The Horizon Club would be at the top of my list, but the decision was my mom's, of course. No one was going to push her into one location or another. Needless to say, I was thrilled, as were my brother and sister, that my mom noticed what I already knew from my own experience. She loved the "vibe" of The Horizon Club from the get-go. That includes the warm and caring staff ... but she noticed something about the resident community, too. And I truly believe that has a TON to do with the staff here. They are special - so that, in turn, leads to a special experience. It has been a year now and my mom is more involved with various activities, made friends - what else can I say? I highly recommend The Horizon Club to anyone looking to make this move.
