I was having problems convincing my Father that putting my Mother in memory care was the safest thing for her being she was out wandering the neighborhood nights and getting hurt so much, they were known as frequent flyers at the local ER! The final fall was when she fell down the neighbor’s steps and broke her neck, was taken to the ER then admitted to the hospital and after 3 days was put in a rehab. Barbara Boeninger – Sales Counselor at The Gardens of Virginia Beach was an answer to my prayers (I would call her a family counselor as I felt sales was not being pushed down our throats like every other facility was doing; Barbara actually cared about my family). Barbara went above and beyond her duties at The Gardens and spent much of her time talking to me and letting me open up to her about what I had been going through the last two plus years with my parents. Barbara then scheduled a private meeting with my Father and laid everything out for him and said if he wanted the best for his wife that he needed to make the decision and keep her safe. Barbara became a friend to me and my Father at this time of need. Barbara spent a good part of the day showing my Father and me around The Gardens and going over all the monthly rates that we would be facing, taking her time to make sure my Dad had all the information and answered any questions we might have for her. This lovely lady in my opinion and my Dad’s went above and beyond anyone I had come across throughout my journey with tours and interviews. This facility is more than a community, they are family. The staff is happy with their jobs and it shows in how the place treats residents and the guests that come to visit. The Gardens of Virginia Beach is very clean; residents are happy and involved in many activities throughout the day. They even allow pets to live there in Assisted Living and visits in Memory Care which is great as my Mother loves my two Cockapoo’s and I can bring them to visit at any time. Mom has a beautiful room where she has a little living room, bedroom and bathroom with a shower (most memory care units are very small and don’t feel homey). I feel like we hit the lottery when I met Barbara as I have been trying for over two plus years to get my Mom in a safe place that will take good care of her with a nursing staff that is kind and caring with activities for them. In the span of two plus years I have been to many facilities and as Barbara said to me, when you feel it's the place for your parent you will just know it. Both my father and I knew The Gardens of Va. Beach was it, the place for Mom where she would be happy and safe! The first day I was expecting problems with Mom but she actually was very pleasant, settled in without incident and fell asleep in her own comfy bed. Dad and I left that evening knowing we made the right decision for her and for us. I can't say enough about everyone at The Gardens, I feel like we now have an extended family with everyone there. I also want to thank Sheyna Dorfman the Senior Living Advisor at A Place for Mom she was a very big help to me as well in this journey, I will forever be grateful to Sheyna and Barbara for the way they both have gone above and beyond for me and my family. Sincerely, Debi Thomas

Our family made the decision to talk to our dad about moving into an assisted living community due to a series of events that left us scared for his safety and feeling like he is becoming increasingly isolated. He agreed and asked to go to The Gardens since our grandmother (his mom) was a resident there from 2005 - 2009 and she received excellent care! We toured the community and left with him asking when could he move in! Its been 2 weeks since he moved into his apartment and he is thriving! He's involved in activities, has made several friends, enjoys the meals, goes on Friday outings with the community & is happy! Everyone from The Gardens who has come in contact with my dad and family has been wonderful! I could not ask for a more supportive, caring and compassionate team to take care of my dad and us. Thank you to everyone at The Gardens! You all are truly a wonderful team and we are so happy our dad is under your care!

I recently toured the Gardens senior community looking for a potential home for my 88 year old Mom. The tour was conducted by Diane the director who was very thorough, knowledgeable and kind. It was obvious that she is very passionate and caring of the seniors at the Gardens. It is a difficult decision to remove your parent from the home they have lived in for years. The Gardens will help make that decision a little easier for me.

I am very happy that my parents are in this community. Everyone takes good care of them. The nurses & med techs are very good at their job. Tina is a very pleasant and friendly greeter. I am glad to see that she has a new position. She is very personable.

The Gardens sponsored a Luau event that was wonderful. Excellent food for residents & family. Entertainment provided was a hit for the residents and my mom never goes to special things. She totally enjoyed this! Thank you!
