September 27, 2017

Jill Loeffler was named ‘Assisted Living/Personal Care Most Valuable Employee of the Year! Sixteen years ago, Jill Loeffler completed an application to only work part-time at Overlook Green Senior Living, part of Five Star Senior Living, to earn extra money for vacations. Little did she know the impact this job would have on her life, as well as the lives of her residents and their families.

Throughout the years, Jill has worked hard to provide the best quality-care for her patients earning her promotions. After working for six years as a resident care aide, Jill was promoted to a Med-Tech position. Then, in 2014, Jill accepted a position of the Activities Director. “When the Activities Director position became available, I could not think of a better fit than Jill,” said Michelle O’Donnell, Executive Director at Overlook Green and the person who nominated Jill for this award. Michelle chose her for this position because Jill knows exactly how to match people with their interests.

Last summer, a resident at the Overlook Senior living was going to receive an award from the French Government for his missions during WWII to help liberate France. Jill arranged for her and a van driver to get a busload of the man’s friends so they could surprise him at his ceremony at the Soldiers and Sailors museum in Pittsburg. Watching the ceremony, everyone was brought to tears, including Jill. After the ceremony,Jill and the residents were invited to join the resident and his family at a luncheon. The resident and his family were so grateful Jill took the time to allow his friends to be a part of the special day.

Jill has impacted the Overlook Senior Living greatly with her dedication and compassion. As Michelle O’Donnell said in her nomination, “I am forever grateful for Jill, she means so much to me and the residents at Overlook.”

PHCA’s Hero Awards honor individuals who have excelled in providing outstanding care in a cooperative spirit of teamwork. Each year, PHCA accepts nominations from employees and administrators at long-term care and senior service facilities across the state that want to recognize colleagues for their commitment and dedication to quality care and quality of life.

The 2017 Hero Awards ceremony took place during PHCA’s annual convention, held at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort. In addition to honoring the award winners for their outstanding contributions to the well being of residents, PHCA made a short video about each winner featuring their colleagues and residents and is making those videos available to the public via YouTube.
