The staff at Shipley Manor are kind and caring, plus they know what they are doing. Both of my parents had a wonderful experience living in this community. Management and staff were always responsive to my parents and me. There is something to be said for experience and a stable staff. Just want to thank the community for all they have done for my family.

I want to express my appreciation and gratitude to all of those professional people who took such good and kind care of my aunt, E. Rebecca Conner during the 11 years that she was a resident of Shipley Manor. From her first days in independent living in February of 2007 until her last day of life on March 23, 2018, she was given excellent care and respect. Becky was not an easy person to deal with and I think the staff always treated her with patience, kindness and excellent nursing skill. I appreciate the care and attention paid to her from both Wendy Nerad and Kathy Scott during those years and during her final time, I got to know her nurses Colleen and James as well as good aides such as Gloria and her PT therapist Jeff. There would have been many others whom I did not get to know personally but I felt sure that she was receiving excellent care even when she was treating them with anger and frustration that they did not deserve. The staff always treated her very professionally and saw over her long slow decline with compassion and benevolence. I close by thanking all of those who were responsible for her care and well being for those 11 years. It has been my pleasure to get to know some of you and to send my appreciation to those whom I did not know

After my grandfather Charles Wallace died over two decades ago now, my amazing grandmother, the wonderful (and now angel) retired IV emergency room nurse Doris Wallace realized she could not stay in their very big -but also very old and hard to maintain/clean- North Wilmington house where she grew up. She moved to Shipley Manor (in independent living- as she could do everything including drive- and fast, too - up until a few months before she finally passed) and I have to admit, as my first real encounter with a “nursing home” as we all called it back then, after hearing all the horror stories and how they’d say it’s “the beginning of the end” ...but especially how much she LOVED my grandfather and was really missing him, grieving, alone... our entire family thought the worst. WOW WERE WE SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED & BLESSED TO THIS DAY AT HOW WRONG WE WERE!! My grandmother didn’t just live, she THRIVED there, and some days was even BUSIER THAN I WAS! I remember the day I called her asking for the 2nd time that week if I could swing by (as I worked right NEXT DOOR AT WSTW at the time) and she said something like “well not now, __ is over and we’re getting ready to bartend this dance event in the main dining room tonight... and tomorrow I play cards with _ & _ from 1-4... hmm MAYBE Thursday... what is you’re schedule like from 5-7pm?” - I cried tears of joy as I laughed at the fact that my eighty-some year old grandmother- (who before moving to Shipley didn’t have a huge circle of friends, as her best friend was her husband - then her kids & family of course) was BUSIER THAN I WAS!!! We NEVER EXPECTED THIS!! I remember especially always hearing about her favorite person there: Kathy Scott, the sales and marketing director who has a heart of GOLD. Kathy was always close by and always knew more than I did about what she was up to, and was with her up until she passed away peacefully and ready- still in independent living- only a couple years ago! I’m so grateful for this and for her- so thank you, Kathy Scott. THANK YOU SHIPLEY MANOR!

I’d like to commend the following team members for the outstanding care provided to my mother: Rakeisha Brown, Gloria Trejo, Fannie Bigger, Dominique Boardley, Colleen Jones, Muriel Reznick, and James Oduor. They are very compassionate, attentive, and caring. I can’t thank them enough! They deserve recognition!

As someone fairly new to the whole senior living/rehab process I have quickly come to recognize what quality care means. My mother had a two and a half month stay at Shipley Manor after a hospital visit. She was treated like gold but more importantly the level of care was tremendous. Receiving 3 therapy sessions daily to work on improving her strength, speech, and ability to process her environment. I saw her regain strength, she was happy, and with the tight schedule she was always interacting with the staff. I would recommend this facility for anyone needing extra assistance for an elderly person. A very professional and caring environment you can trust will manage their care appropriately!

My father, a resident of Shipley Manor, suffered a stroke back in March. The staff was so helpful in his recovery. I’m impressed with the service provided by Susan Comegys, Kathy Scott, and therapists, Natalie, Jennifer, and Susan. They’ve been so supportive, helpful, and caring.
