When my 70 year old wife became more agitated, more difficult to bathe, feed, clothe, medicate and amuse and required more "hands on" care, I turned to the staff at Somerford in Stockton. Their one-on-one, hands on hands approach to dementia care made all the difference in her life. Their Bridge to Rediscovery program, kind of a Montessori approach, allowed her to grow and change in a new, positive direction at her own level and pace. The live music (yes, staff gets them up and moving), bingo, bowling, arts and crafts, guessing three and four letter words beginning with "A", regular religious activities, all contributed to a well rounded curriculum. Somerford's approach is what I call "Open Kimono"; total transparency and honesty regarding the residents progress. And they practice an inclusive whole house/team approach which values the contributions of all staff members as well as those of the residents. Since Somerford is comprised of 4 "houses" the residents feel like they are at home and see the same caring faces day after day which builds trust and a sense of belonging. Of course, there are lots of sunny windows, open spaces, chairs and chances to just enjoy themselves while being observed by numerous staff . Somerford has been crucial in my piece of mind and my wife's level of care.

A few months ago my husband and I found ourselves taking care of his brother. His daughter died suddenly and she had been his caregiver. She was so young, nobody expected this would happen. My husband’s brother has dementia and is unable to care for himself. He was so lost and spent most of his day sitting in a chair, watching TV. We decided we needed to find a better place for him. We were so lucky to find Somerford Place. Peggy, Leslie and everyone we met there were so friendly and welcoming. Seeing my brother-in-law now, living in Somerford Place, is so nice. He participates in the activities, always has a smile on his face and is so much happier. Thank you Peggy Massey for all of your help. We would recommend Somerford Place to anyone looking for a home for a loved one with Dementia.

In November 2017 I was looking for a Alzheimer's Facility for my mother. I live in Montana and my mother lives in Lodi, California. I looked on the internet not really knowing what to expect or who to call. I came across Somerford Place of Stockton. I looked at their website, picked up the phone and called them. I talked to the nicest person at Somerford Place. Her name is Peggy Massey. I told her my situation with my mother and asked her if there was anyway to get my mother into their facility. She told me that they were full but she would look into some options. Peggy called me back and told me they had made room for my mother and would be glad to accept her into Somerford Place. Now understand, Peggy Massey never met me but she went above and beyond to get my mother a room in their facility. This is the kind of people that are working at Somerford Place. People that care about your situation and go the extra mile to help you. My mother is getting excellent care and I have Peggy Massey and Leslie Anderson to thank for that. The best decision I ever made for my mother was to put her into Somerford Place of Stockton.

My sister has been at Somerford since December 4th and she is thriving. She was diagnosed with dementia and since she’s been there she has improved immensely. She was previously in a retirement community for 4 years and towards the end it was just not working. But she’s doing really well and we’re very pleased, I can’t say enough nice things about the place.

My mom moved in November of 2017 and she was only there for a couple of weeks before we found a place closer to where I live that had an opening. So we moved her there because it was more convenient and I honestly regret it to this day. The difference in level of care was astounding; she was treated way better at Somerford. Luckily within a couple of weeks of me calling Somerford a place opened up for me to be able to move her back in. The staff there is like family, they’re very accommodating, helpful and friendly. I’ve gotten a chance to get to know the caregivers which I didn’t get a chance to do with the other place. Peggy and Leslie are wonderful and I really appreciate that they helped us out and got her back into the community because she loves it there and she’s doing really well.

I wanted to tell you how wonderful my wife’s stay was and how lovely the people were there. Leslie, Noreen, Teresa and Peggy were great and all the caregivers were great. I’m very pleased with the service and level of care they provided my wife. Thank you very much.
