Meet the Chef
Meet the Chef: Jose Bojorquez
Jose Bojorquez was born in Sinaloa, Mexico, to a professional Baseball player father and Home Maker mother. In his early years, Jose’s mother moved him and his family to The United States in hopes of achieving the American dream. As a young child Jose often found himself observing his mother making authentic Mexican food. He often remembers the smell of Chile Con Carne (fresh red chile and thick chunks of steak) brewing over a gas lite stove. Or the smell of fresh beans and tortillas penetrating the neighbor’s senses inciting them to come and take part of a great tradition. Seeing his mother cater to these individuals and how that wonderful experience made each one of the visitors feel as though they were in a culinary utopia excited him. He has been with The Gardens of Sun City for 17 years. He has been able to work all aspects of both the front and back of the house, enabling him to have an understanding of the entire dining process. These wonderful experiences were the muse Jose used to facilitate a great dining experience for his residents.
When Jose is not working he spends it with his 3 beautiful boys and wife of 12 years, Kelly. You can often find him at the baseball park hitting a grand slam and running the bases or enjoying the warm weather in his pool. He continues to search for educational opportunities to enhance his knowledge of the food service industry with the ultimate goal of creating the perfect dining experience.
In 2014, Jose was selected as part of a special group of Five Star Senior Living Chefs to compete in Five Star’s San Diego Chef Challenge. Jose represented The Gardens of Sun City with honor and pride.
