ITS THE STAFF: Probably the most satisfying decision my wife and I have made in the past few years - choosing Desert Harbor over the plethora of "senior communities" in metropolitan Phoenix. And not because of the plant, the cost, the location, or any other physical factor. Its the warm feeling of a collegial family neighborhood wherein there's are competent mechanics to keep things working; caring neighbors when the day isn't quite great; a wide variety of available entertainment; a generous, quality menu; and, best of all, those wonderful young people with their sunny dispositions who turn dining into a warm social event.

My father is a 93 year old WWII vet, who up until one year ago was living on his own in his Sun City home. Over time, it proved impossible for him to continue there, even with caregivers coming in on half day schedules. He was accepted into hospice through Banner, which was extremely helpful. But, he was lonely and isolated, not happy at home and deteriorating. He would not consider alternatives either. A health crisis forced him out of the home, and with recommendations from hospice, we placed him at The Forum in the medical wing. He was there for a week, and I honestly thought he wouldn’t be with us much longer. After examination by staff, we placed him in assisted living at The Forum, which he was reluctant to do. But it was no cost to him, so being who he is he agreed. We did a “sales job” on him, knowing this was his best chance st recovery. He finally agreed, and was taken in permanently. Today, he is thriving. He is happy there; he tells me he loves it there. My dad is lucid, comfortable and content, and he says he wishes he had done this sooner. He is greatly improved. The staff are responsive and helpful, and he enjoys good relations with them. His favorite thing is the clam chowder on Fridays - 2 bowls, 3 if he can get away with it! We are very pleased with The Forum at Desert Harbor, and would recommend them to anyone considering an eldercare facility.

My business, New Image Fashions has been putting on fashion shows and women’s clothing and watch sales at the Forum at Desert Harbor for about 15 years. The residents and staff are all exceptionally nice people. The residents all seem to love living there and the staff seems very caring towards the residents. An excellent community!!

My 92 year old mother was admitted to the Healthcare unit of the Forum at Desert Harbor with significant injuries to her arm and hip resulting from a fall at home. After a month of treatment, the medical opinion consensus was doubtful that she would never be able to recover sufficiently to walk unassisted with a walker again. It appeared that mom would have to be placed in a long term care facility, or perhaps a group home. To my delight, the staff at the Forum refused to give up on her. Crystal & Jamie kept working with mom on her physical and occupational therapy regimen, and her nurses Kim, Robert, Jackie, and Mars kept treating, encouraging, and helping her get through the difficult periods of her recovery. The ladies in activities, Pam, Carol, & TJ were successful in getting mom to enjoy and participate in activities. The many Certified Nursing Assistants caring for mom went beyond making sure that she was clean, comfortable, and safe; they were kind, friendly, and joked with her to keep her spirits up. It took nearly 7 months to rehab my mother, but she was finally able to physically and mentally function well enough to come back home to live with me. Michelle Fox runs an excellent healthcare unit that is a model for what a skilled nursing facility that is focused on the safe rehabilitation and recovery of residents should be. I am very grateful to the excellent staff and recovery program of the Forum at Desert Harbor.

In 2011, at the age of 85, my mother moved into a beautiful two-bedroom, two bath lake view independent living apartment at The Forum at Desert Harbor. She, and our entire family, loved The Forum! The food is delicious, activities are abundant, the staff is caring and personable. During that time Mom needed to use both the skilled care/rehab facility twice and recently spent several weeks in assisted living before moving her near us in North Carolina. Our experience was so favorable with The Forum (family lives 2000 miles away), we chose a sister Five Star community for her in NC. The Forum is exactly what a continuing care retirement community should be. Mom was happy and safe moving down the hall when additional care was needed. Thank you Crystal Halay and the experienced PT, rehab, and nursing teams for your loving care.
