Ten years ago, in July 2000, the founders of Five Star proudly took on 56 nursing homes from former bankrupt companies. That began the Five Star story with 5,400 employees in 16 states from Connecticut to California. Although we had somewhat meager beginnings in terms of systems and infrastructure, we had lots of talent, energy, purpose, and perhaps most important - vision. These attributes have sustained us as we have grown over the past 10 years. Today, Five Star is one of the largest and most financially stable senior living companies in the United States with 22,000 dedicated employees, 20,000 residents and patients in 217 senior living communities in 30 states, along with 6 institutional pharmacies, 2 rehabilitation hospitals, 34 outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and Rehabilitation & Wellness services for our senior living residents. As our company has grown, we have worked to make sure that each of our newly acquired senior living communities maintains the unique characteristics, local flavor, and individual preferences of its residents and staff, giving us a broad range of senior living options to fit a wide variety of needs or lifestyle choice. In addition we’ve developed and implemented numerous award-winning and successful programs such as: Bridge to Rediscovery, our specialty care program for residents with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related illnesses; Healthy Generation, which encourages seniors to keep physically and mentally active; our comprehensive Rehabilitation & Wellness services – orthopedic, cardiac, neurological therapies and more – designed to help our residents and patients maintain or improve their independence; our rehabilitation hospitals’ Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke programs which have been awarded the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval; and our outpatient rehabilitation clinics that have been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). We are indeed fortunate to have achieved so much in such a relatively short time. We recognize and appreciate the work that our employees do each and every day to provide high quality care for our residents and patients. We also value the choice that thousands of seniors and their family members have made to entrust us with their care and quality of life. We are committed to continuing to provide outstanding service, excellent clinical care, and a vibrant and fulfilling life for each and every one of our residents and patients. Thank you to all employees and residents who are part of the Five Star family. Sincerely,
